In Pavo's city guide, we take you to one of our favorite cities every month and share with you the eateries, boutiques and other addresses that we think are indispensable during a visit.

Maastricht is one of those cities that you can visit all year round, every season the city is lively and offers something beautiful. But the most beautiful is Maastricht in the fall . Usually Maastricht is a busy city visited by tourists. In the fall this crowd fortunately decreases a bit and Maastricht with its charming squares, cozy cafes, and historical buildings is a very nice city to spend a weekend. We have listed our favorite places for you in this City Guide!

When you visit Maastricht by train, you will arrive at the station in the Wyck district. Wyck is a cozy, neat district filled with stylish boutiques and trendy bars. Start your weekend with a walk through Wyck and a breakfast at Café Zondag . This trendy café can be recognized from afar by the striking red tables and chairs. Café Zondag is perfect for any time of day. In the evening it is also very cozy for a drink/party.

Across from Café Zondag is the equally trendy bistro-bar 'T Wycker Cabinet . Here too you can go all day long. They offer a typical Burgundian/Maastricht menu with Limburg as well as French and Mediterranean influences. Ideal for a relaxed evening with friends or a romantic date.

If you then walk a little further towards the old bridge that leads to the main shopping street of Maastricht, you will first find a small chocolate shop on the left. Friandises has been a household name in Maastricht for years. The family business provides excellent service, but above all they deliver home-made chocolates of artisanal super quality. Customers come from all over the world to Wyck especially for these chocolates. We strongly recommend that you buy chocolates here!! Once you have tasted these chocolates, you will never want anything else.

Once you're on the other side of the bridge, you'll find a number of small shops with a unique range, in addition to the large concerns. Festen is one of those must-visit shops in Maastricht. This concept store offers a mix of interior, fashion and accessories. Perfect for anyone who loves a modern, creative vibe. This shop is also highly recommended if you want to buy a gift for someone or for yourself ;)

Traiders Pop is another favorite. This cool store with an alternative vibe is a must for vintage fashion lovers. The Maastricht store sells new clothes and trinkets from Trasher, Fruit of the loom, Carhartt, etc. in the first section. In the back of the store you will find carefully curated second-hand clothes.

In the growing Maastricht district of Sphinxkwartier lies Loods 5 . This is a true hotspot for interior and design lovers. In this spacious department store you will find an extensive selection of furniture, accessories and unique design items. The industrial Sphinxkwartier has been completely transformed in recent years into a vibrant area full of creativity, with cafés, cultural institutions such as Lumière and modern architecture.

Maastricht is a city where good food and drink are central, and in late summer and autumn this is no different. For a delicious, authentic dinner you can't miss Café Sjiek . This iconic eatery is known for its traditional dishes such as zuurvlees and an extensive wine list. Perfect for a cozy evening in a casual setting.

Another favorite of Pavo is Café de Bobbel , located in the city center. This charming restaurant is a perfect place for a cozy dinner or a nice drink at the large marble bar. At Bobbel you get real classics like mussels and steak tartare. Want to try something new? Then check out the extensive drinks menu :)

Another of Maastricht's culinary gems is Marres Kitchen , located in the eponymous art house Marres . Here you can enjoy Mediterranean dishes in a unique setting, surrounded by art and culture. The menu is inspired by the flavors of countries such as Italy, Morocco and Turkey. The restaurant has a super beautiful city garden where you can have lunch or dinner in ultimate peace.
